Building Safer, Compassionate Classrooms: Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (CPI)
On September 26, 2025, CISVA faculty are invited to participate in Day 1 of the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) Training, a crucial professional development opportunity designed to support educators in fostering safe, respectful, and supportive learning environments.
This workshop equips teachers and staff with effective problem-solving and decision-making strategies for managing situations where students present risk behaviours. By focusing on prevention and de-escalation, the training empowers educators to respond with confidence and compassion always keeping the safety and dignity of both student and staff at the forefront.
Why This Training Matters
CPI has recently released its revised 3rd Edition, which reflects a significant shift in approach:
From reaction to prevention – placing greater emphasis on anticipating challenges before they escalate.
From behaviour to whole person – adopting a trauma-informed, person-centered lens that acknowledges the unique needs and experiences of each student.
From control to care – preparing school staff to engage not only with strategies, but also with empathy and understanding.
For New Teachers
For those just entering the teaching profession, this training provides an essential foundation. New educators often encounter situations that can feel overwhelming or unpredictable. CPI equips them with clear, practical tools to navigate these moments, building confidence and reinforcing a sense of security in their classrooms.
For Experienced Teachers
For seasoned educators, CPI offers the opportunity to strengthen and refresh existing practices with the most up-to-date, research-based strategies. By integrating trauma-informed approaches, experienced teachers can expand their skills and model best practices for colleagues, ensuring that schools benefit from a culture of continuous learning and growth.
A Unified Commitment
CISVA strongly recommends this workshop for School-Based Teams supporting students with emotional regulation challenges, but the tools and insights gained are relevant for all staff. When educators come together new and experienced alike to invest in their professional growth, the benefit is shared by every student in our Catholic schools.
