Guidance relating to the completion of the Eligible Student (ES) form that forms part of the annual ES Audit. The submission of the ES Audit is done by the CISVA auditor, Ernst & Young, working closely with the schools.

The SOPSOC calculation is an annual requirement that schools are required to submit as it ties into overall government funding and qualifying for Category 1 funding (ie, 50% of the public school block grant). This is a very useful guide to understanding what is the calculation itself. Please note that the annual filing is performed by CISVA's auditor, Ernst & Young, working closely with each school.
Schools with international students should read this guide. It is produced by the Ministry of Education and obligates schools that accept international students where a home stay situation is involved to a level of oversight to help ensure a positive experience for the student. Schools are required to obtain from the international home stay provider a letter saying that they have read this guideline, understand and follow it.
This provides information around Medical Service Plan coverage for international students. It is the student's responsibility to apply and pay for this. Schools must ensure that medical coverage or private insurance is in place as a condition of acceptance to a school.
Schools with over 20 employees are required by WorkSafe BC to have a functioning Occupational Health & Safety Committee in place that meets regularly, prepares and posts minutes of each meeting. The aim is to draw employee's attention to the importance of occupational health and safety and promote practices in support of this. This is an excellent handbook that was prepared by the BC Public School Employers Association that is specific to a school's context.
Not sure how to run an Occupational Health & Safety committee? This resource prepared by WorkSafe BC provides practical guidance in running an such a committee. There is a wealth of resources available schools can use to raise general awareness among staff in this area.

Provincial legislation as it relates to this area / Section 2.2 is of specific importance to the prohibition of tobacco and vape products on school property and the duty of the Administrator (signage declaring area a Tobacco and Vape-free Zone, for example). This is a requirement that is covered off when a Ministry representative inspects a school.
The Ministry that asks that schools undertake every 3 years a test to check for lead in the school's potable water system. Water samples are to be taken and tested and, should levels be above the provincial minimum, steps taken to ameliorate. Should testing result in elevated levels of lead, the school authority must immediately inform the Ministry of the issue. School districts shall collaboratively work with their Regional Health Authority to communicate the results of testing lead content in drinking water with parents, students and staff by describing the following: i). Rationale for testing lead in drinking water ii). Identify partnership with the Regional Health Authority in solutioning iii). State results of sampling iv). Identify mitigation strategies implemented or being consider by the Board v). Provide contact information for the school district and the Regional Health Authority for parents, students and staff to request further information.

This should be read in conjunction with CISVA Policy 405 as well as the BC Handbook on Child Abuse & Neglect. It forms part of an annual requirement for school Administrators to communicate to their staff their obligations in how to deal with and report an incident of child abuse/ neglect.
This is the relevant section from the Independent School Act covering bullying and harassment. It should be read in conjunction with CISVA Policy 408 - Anti-bullying and is in place to meet the requirement under the Act to have such a policy in place for the school authority.
